Hollows & Rounds - The Fundamentals of Using Planes

Presented by Terry Gordon

Terry Gordon from HNT Gordon will explain the fundamentals of how these planes work. In particular the matching of the blade profile with the sole, followed by the blade pitch and skew. You will then learn how to put the blades into the Planes and how to adjust them.

You will be shown how to mark out and position a round profile using a hollow plane. This will include the use of a marking/cutting gauge and snipe bill plane.

Terry will show you how to mark out and position a hollow profile using a round plane. This will include the use of a marking/cutting gauge and snipe bill plane.

He will then demonstrate how to mark out and position a combined hollow and round profile to make a simple Ogee moulding.

With the planes we have available we will then cut a round profile, a hollow profile and combine these two profiles to form an Ogee profile.

Terry will also show you how to use a snipe Bill plane to accentuate the quirk in a moulding.

Time permitting, we will go through the basics of sharpening Hollows and Rounds.

This course will only occur once this year. Don’t miss out on this golden opportunity to learn with Terry Gordon the fundamentals of how to use these planes correctly.
