French Polishing

$395 AUD

Presented by Eddy Toffeletti

French Polishing is a traditional finish where you apply thin layers of Shellac onto timber to bring out the subtle beauty held within. To this day, it still remains the warmest and most spectacular finish applied to figured and non-figured timbers. It has the ability to create a 3-dimensional quality to timber.

You will be directed to the MindBody booking page.

The Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking has teamed up with the exceptionally talented and passionate ‘French Polisher’ – Eddy Toffeletti to create this compact ‘bite sized’ one day course in French Polishing.

We will cover all the necessary aspects of French Polishing to enable you to continue this at home on your own projects.

Some of the topics covered will be:

Polishing new timber
Reviving old polish
Oil finishes (eg. Danish Oil)
Grain filling
Rubber making
Waxing

You will be given timber samples for you to polish, and by the end of the day, these could be used by you as a feature panel in a future project, such as a beautiful box!

There’s nothing mysterious about French Polishing.  It’s a wonderful experience that most people find cathartic, and knowing about how to apply this ‘finish’ properly is a must for any professional or amateur furniture maker alike!
