Windsor - Continuous Arm Chair

$2350.00 AUD

Presented by Jon Grant

This iconic Windsor chair will undoubtedly interest those who have already completed our in our Perch Stool course.

You will be directed to the MindBody booking page.

This 'Continuous Arm Windsor Chair' is the most iconic of all American Windsors and in my opinion the most beautiful and well balanced. Chair making in general offers no greater challenge to most furniture makers. It represents the pinnacle of furniture making skills. It also provides a great opportunity to explore the wonderful world of 'green woodworking' and its many facets.

Arguably, the most successful chair ever designed, the Windsor Chair both in England and America dominated the furniture landscape for well over 150 years. Still to this day, in both countries, the Windsor Chair enjoys immense popularity. Although not as well known here in Australia, the Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking hope to expose as many people as possible to the brilliance of the Windsor Chair. Its unique design will astound you.

You will learn to use proficiently all the unique tools associated with making a Windsor Chair. For example, a spoke shave, a draw knife, a compass and travisher plane or a scorp. You will learn to mill and shape the seat. We will also show you how to ‘steam bend’ the crest rail and finish the chair in natural Danish Oil, Shellac or traditional Milk Paint imported from The USA.

This chair provides a great challenge to those who have already completed a 'Perch Stool', 'Fan Back Windsor Chair' and/or 'Balloon Back Windsor Chair.' This 7 day course gives us ample time to fully complete the chair and apply a couple of coats of finish.

Nothing is more satisfying than successfully completing such a unique and beautiful project, an heirloom that will be treasured for generations to come!
