The Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking was founded by Alastair Boell in 2007. After graduating from the world renowned North Bennet Street School, Boston (USA) Alastair felt that there was a great need in Australia for an educational facility that focuses on traditional skills. 

The Guild is committed to preserving and advancing craft traditions in furniture making. We are also committed to promoting a greater awareness and appreciation of
craftsmanship. In our classes we emphasize the skillful use of hand tools and power equipment and an informed use of appropriate materials. We are passionate about what we do and want to share information, ideas and skills with all our students young and old, from beginner to advanced.

The Gallery

Located within a 5 minute walk of Blackburn Station, The Guild Gallery (est. in 2018) offers a large clean space with an abundance of natural light and is a wonderful environment for your creative endeavours. 

This 15m x 8m space adjoins a kitchenette with tea and coffee facilities. It also features polished concrete floors throughout, freshly painted walls and an abundance of gallery lighting. This space also includes unlimited access to the internet, a Bluetooth speaker, air conditioning, heating, 4 portable work benches, stools and security cameras throughout the building.  It is also serviced by both a male and female toilet. Free onsite parking is also available.

The Guild Gallery belongs to The Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking (MGFW), which was established in 2008. The Guild Gallery is located on the 1st Floor, away from the creative activities of the wood working workshop and classrooms downstairs. The MGFW is very proud of its extensive and well-established creative community. We would love to have you join us!
